A Letter

                                          Date-14.04.2024.
Dear Bhaiyaji,
        Sadar Pranam.

I know it very well that you are not physically with us since you left two years ago on this date for your heavenly abode; yet your presence in various soft forms is preserved in our memories.
These memories will continue to guide as well as inspire me on the way of my uncharted journey that actually life happens to be despite the best planning one may do for it.
*******************************************************
I remember how good you were at mathematics. It was so even while you had come into service and despite having spent many years therein you had not forgotten a range of mathematical formulas of algebra, calculus, co-ordinate geometry, trigonometry etc.
Needless to say that it was a matter of delight, surprise, pride and awe,all at the same time, for me and many others who you were known to.
Leave alone remembering those formulas with application of mind even merely trying to remember those on my part were simply hard nuts to crack.
*******************************************************
Today when you are no longer around us, I remember one of the few events that happened decades ago when I was just an intermediate student of science.

One fine morning I claimed before you that I had covered algebra and calculus completely. Such a claim was mostly a swank on my part which you soon noticed. You gave me to solve some questions from Math Books authored by Lalji Prasad- the Great Author of my time.
As it was simply a brag I started feigning in various ways to impress upon him that I knew how to solve them but for some fake reasons I told him that I would solve them afterwards.
But in the meantime, in fact, I was searching for a Book from my almirah.

This Book was none else but a key (कुञ्जिका) to all branches of mathematics like algebra, calculus etc. published by the name ‘A Refresher Course in Algebra, Calculus etc.’ published by the “Scientific Book Company” during those days of my time.
I don't know whether these books are still in the market or not.

I didn't know that you had already kept that “Key-book” out from the said almirah to hide it somewhere else, anticipating a priori that I,in order to impress you, might use that “key-book” to solve those mathematics sums keeping you in the dark.

Perhaps after an hour or so,upon finding me perplexed in a bid to search surreptitiously the same key book you suddenly appeared before me with that Key-book to hand over same to me saying to me with a smile-
“ Isn't this the book you had been badly searching for? No need to search for it anymore, it's here.’
*******************************************************
I was at my wits end.
I felt extremely ashamed.
I still remember my state of being which was full of shame and repentance.
********************************************************
I learnt from that time onwards that in a bid to falsely impress someone whether that one is your brother or boss or whosoever he may be, if you say or claim something with respect to anything without it being a fact or reality; your false & fake endeavour of this type makes you an object of pity when it gets exposed.

I learnt from that time onwards the real meaning of the saying
“Action Speaks Louder than Voice”.

You taught me- It doesn't matter what one says, what matters is what one does towards what he says or has said.
I learnt that without speaking too much one should do his duty. Speaking too much without matching action is useless.
*******************************************************
उस दिन से मैंने डींग हाॅंकना और गप्पे भाॅंजना बंद कर दिया.
On the flipside I also learnt that a big brother is always smarter than the younger ones.
              Seeking your blessings-
                         Your younger brother,
                        Rajeev Ranjan Prabhakar.
                                 14.04.2024.
