Skill-Value Combinations (within an individual)- A Brief Discussion.

The other day I had some discussion with one of my friends on matters of skills and values.
While we found that positive values like honesty, sincerity, punctuality, truthfulness, promptness, fidelity etc. are limited in numbers; positive skills are difficult to count to the extent of exhaustion.
However we can safely imagine that all verbs indicating positive knowledge driven actions are skills.
The discussion that ensued touched upon various aspects of Skill-Value propositions by way of following examples-
       * If a person usually arrives late anywhere it means he attaches least importance to punctuality. So punctuality as value counts low for him.
        * If a person always tries his best to speak the truth it can be taken to mean that truthfulness as a value is very high for him.
*If a person bribes or gets bribed it means his value count of honesty is low. That is to say he attaches little importance to the value of honesty but is high on the count of opportunism or subornation.
        * If a person is easily available for help it means he attaches high value to compassion and generosity.
        * Cleanliness as a value matters little for those who don't mind filth and squalor.
        * Similarly a person of violent behaviour will not give importance to decency as a value. Etc.etc.
Actually we stand shaped by the "Value" we value in our life.
Skills, unlike Values, are chequered. They're many to say the least.
Engineering is a skill, programming is a skill, practicing surgery or medicine is a skill, administering is a skill, planning is a skill, training is a skill etc.etc.
In fact the list seems endless and depends how much we are able to visualise and that again visualising is a skill.

We went on discussing various aspects and combinations of skills and values of an individual that determines his/her real worth as contributing member of society.
Consequent upon such discussion I was able to recall what I once studied in the long past with respect to skill-value combinations within an individual.
The said combination could be represented in the simplest form that could be as follows-
A. Low Value-Low Skill
B. High Value-Low Skill
C. Low Value-High Skill
D. High Value-High Skill
**************************************************
A.Low Value-Low Skill
Imagine a person who doesn't live for any positive value and at the same time has no positive skills either to eke out his living by valid means or to contribute to the society.
The economic and social worth of this class of people is zero. They are worthless for himself, for family in particular and society in general. They are nothing short of a liability and the society wants to get rid of them.In fact they need to be corrected for possessing such low value and skill.
Beggars, street urchins and hooligans can be placed in this category.

B.High Value-Low Skill
Suppose a person has grown old; very old. His skill has suffered due to his advance age. Now he can't drive, can't make, can't visualise, can't plan etc.etc.
Nevertheless the positive value he lived for throughout his journey of life serves as a guide to the young generation.
The young ones can learn a lot from them to refine their knowledge and skill base.
What is needed is to pay heed to their advice and counsel with interest. Our society is duty bound to hold such category of people in good esteem so long as they live.
Old age pensions, pensions to the government service retirees can also be seen in the context of paying tribute to their skill now spent.
Even if the person is of low skill but high on value he still is a useful member of the society. Given his high value the government must provide opportunity for him to improve on his skill howsoever negligible it may be.

C.Low value-High skill

Such people are dangerous ones for the society. They are threat to the society and also for entire humanity leave alone a country or nation.
How would you categorise a terrorist who is highly qualified; say a doctor or engineer or programmer etc.?
In other words; such people are product of low value but high skill. Being a creature imbibing low value their threat potential is exponentially high with an arithmetic rise in proficiency in the skill they have. They leave no stone unturned to make this living and lively world a graveyard.

These people are serious threats in disguise. The society must get rid of them and the governments and instrumentalities across the globe should do all that they can for such riddance.

D. High Value-High Skill.

These people are assets to the family, society and last but not the least the State and in fact the entire humanity for understable reasons of their usefulness. Their role go on increasing with the rise and perfection of the skill they command.
How would you rate the former president Dr.APJ Kalam?
Within no time everyone would say-He was precious asset to our country. His contribution will never fall into oblivion.
The above discussion may enable us to locate ourselves to find out where do we lie on this Skill-Value Matrix.
