Power : roots and types.
Power is our capacity to influence the behaviour of others. The bases of power are many. Some of these are mentioned as follows:
Legal power- Rules and regulations providing power to the individual holding a position in the hierarchy. We obey our boss and superiors owing to this power exercised by them. We do not obey their commands if the same is not sanctioned by rules and regulations formed by a competent body. This explains why we need not obey the boss if his orders are of personal nature and character.
Traditional Power- this power emanates from tradition. Why does a son comply with the command of his father can be explained on this base.
Charismatic Power- it emanates from some sort of Charisma associated with an individual. Political leaders(Mahatma Gandhi, Hitler etc.), Religious Godmen command the people in contact with them on this basis. This basis of power, generally speaking, robs the followers of their rational thinking making them camp followers.
Expert Power- this comes due to expertise acquired by diligent and intelligent labour in any field. This, in short, is knowledge cum experience driven power. This base of power explains why we heed and comply with the command often garbed as suggestion of a technical hand. Doctors, Lawyer, Engineers who feed on this power are all technical persons by this categorisation.
Constructive(informal) Power- this grows due to contact with a person having formal power. This explains why does a person find himself in a commanding position despite having not been vested with that power what others think about him.
And right now I am enlightened to expand my knowledge by being apprised by a Person no less than a SC Judge who is pleased to elucidate upon Women Power which is source to all genre of powers. Men(in general and husbands in particular) from all races, backgrounds, nationalities, educational atainments, exercising above variety of power across the globe must bow before this superpower.
