The JNU and the 14 th November.
The JNU and the 14 th November.
*******************************************************
I, along with my daughter, was in the JNU campus on the 14th of this month. The reason being my daughter had got a call from this university for pursuing her masters in economics there.
Being aware of the fact that 14 th November was the birth anniversary of our first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru as also the name of this university is after him,I had expected that the university would be busy celebrating this occasion by organizing functions which fortunately I may also happen to witness in course of my visit there for the aforesaid purpose.
Heigh ho! There was nothing like this.
To not only my disappointment but utter surprise also, I found not a single function being organized there even for the namesake. Leaving aside the organization of any seminar or symposium, the teachers and students alike who posed themselves as a self-proclaimed repository of all sorts of progressive ideas of liberty, equality and what not, had no time to lay even a wreath on the statue of Jawaharlal on the occasion of his birth anniversary.
What has happened to the teachers or students? Why this callousness? Which sort of intellectualism do they intend to demonstrate by being insensitive to this level? They seem to forget that they would not have been what they are today. Less said the better.

Put aside students and teachers; why didn't the university administration think it proper to lay at least a wreath on the statue of Jawaharlal that stood erect on the very front of its main building?
Nehru's overcoat was visibly coated with dirt and squalor.
These are some questions that baffled me throughout that day while remaining engaged in getting admission processes done there.
Asking anything to anyone with respect to this faux pas was simply futile.
For they might not like to answer anything that may be according to them far from it being intellectual.
Does change in regime prompt one to rob Paul to pay Peter?
