Limitation of Merit
Merit can help you reach up to a certain point beyond which it ceases to be of any use save that it will make you mere stand at where you are.
If one wants to rise further one may need to have something more in the name of merit.
These “somethings” are connections, subornation, adulation, references etc. Together; they're euphemistically called interpersonal competence.
Even if you are deficient in the above mentioned qualities, all you need is the money power which is the best substitute of merit and all the above mentioned criteria for success.
This fact is more felt than expressed by the common people in their everyday life experiences.
********************************************************
In our time you could not imagine success in the competition unless you had requisite merit.
But the same merit can't earn you a promotion or posting of your choice.
Your performance appraisal is more a measure of ‘relationship’ with your boss you work under than a measure of your work you do. Any disturbance in the said relation can ruin your career no matter how meritorious, diligent, honest in your work or duty you happen to be.
This is the first hand experience of most of the people who secure a position by dint of ‘only merit’.
For that you need to have qualities other than merit which I mentioned above.
********************************************************
But nowadays even that merit doesn't seem to be an essentiality. Now a seat in a competitive exam for career or position appears to have become a saleable commodity.
If hearsay is to be believed a medical seat costs more than a crore for mere admission to an MBBS course.
This speaks volumes of lust and passion breeding corruption that goes with such an admission episode.

The recent messy state of affairs following the declaration of NEET result reinforced the belief that NTA is doing its job in the nasty way of the basest order.
*******************************************************
As to why I am writing these lines is driven by my urge to express my disappointment at the messy state of affairs in the organization of the NEET exam conducted by NTA.
Over centralisation begets corruption of different nature. This is fully evidenced in the modus operandi of the agency. It has failed to instill confidence in the general public by the way it discharges its functions.
*******************************************************
I have never ever heard in my life that competitive exams grant grace marks to thousands of candidates for the so-called fault on part of the agency(NTA). Where a fraction of a single mark serves as a barrier to clear the cut off, giving one full mark as a grace is a highly fishy affair.
In Bihar the gang doing NEET paper leakage was busted by Bihar Police on the eve of the NEET exam but the concerned authorities deny any such leakage despite ample evidence as far as the story goes in the print and electronic media.
Anyone with a rational mind will find it highly unconvincing to believe it.
The real story must be something else that suggests foul play of the sleazy order of scamy proportion.
Despite such grave and serious imbroglio; the height of the scenario is that the authorities are adamant not to accept the fact of what is visible to the naked eyes.
*******************************************************
Anyway, any dirty state of affairs seen this way or that way is nothing but the outcome of poor conscience of the society composed of parents, guardians, students, intellectuals, authorities and government.
Why to single out anyone for it to be blamed? We must reap what we have sown.
