Emotional Intelligence (EI) : why do we need to develop it?

This era is highly competitive. While every body cherishes success not all do the needful for ensuring it.  Those doing the needful may meet with failure for reasons of luck or providence. The result is frustration and dismay which is quite natural. The importance of emotional Intelligence can hardly be overemphasized in  everyday experience. It is a common experience that we find ourselves to be caught in a situation that very often turns our dream into dispair and disappointment. Emotional Intelligence enables us to stand the test of adversities. It helps rebuild ourselves yet again with recollected energy by efficient management of our emotions. By proper management of our emotions we happen to focus on task with better understanding of its requirements.
Emotional Intelligence(EI) is the characteristics of an individual that makes an individual not only better understand and work upon his own emotions but others' also. Working upon others emotions for the purpose of performance of task is empathy. The concept is to know the emotions of others and visualize how I would have reacted under the same circumstances and upon this understanding dealing with the person of interest accordingly.
In an Organization, sufficient understanding of Emotional Intelligence both on part of the Boss and the sub-ordinates is always helpful towards a healthy interpersonal relations. An emotionally intelligent boss would avoid to call in his chamber a sub- ordinate whose application for leave he has rejected a short while ago.The reason is simple, the said staff may be off by mood to say the least. Dealing with a person who by reasons of your action may be emotionally unstable or turbulent requires skill and empathy. An emotionally intelligent person bides time to let the situation improve on its own if it is born out of emotional turbulence.
Similarly, if you are in need of getting a patient hearing of your personal problems that hamper your performance on the work you must have sufficient understanding of the time, mood and other important engagements of your boss.
Thus by way of above simple examples it has been sought to illustrate the basic components of Emotional Intelligence(EI).
These are
        * proper understanding of the nature and delicacy of the situation one is subjected to; as also the opportunity that the said situation may hide within it upon situational analysis.
*Understanding oriented action to get out of that situation or use that situation as an opportunity for leadership Actions.
        * An emotionally intelligent person is not quick to respond unless he thinks it necessary for the desired outcome. His response is studied one if the situation permits him so.
In short, an emotionally intelligent person best understands and utilizes emotions of not only his but that of others also on and off the work. He tries his best to arrest the situation deteriorate any further on account of dysfunctional behaviour at workplace. We are fully aware that now a days stress of multiple character affect the work environment. We must be on the guard to inculcate it and use it to test our competence. Interpersonal Competence cannot bear fruit in absence of emotional Intelligence.
